On Planet Ladydust...

ladydust01Ladydust is certainly adored behind the dexx by any audience, in her country or abroad. She?s also a famous radio producer with a mission to discover new artists and bands from the rock n?roll scenery all over the world and promote them through her radio broadcast called: ?Planet Ladydust?. Music is for sure one big inspiration for her, not the only one though - she?s into other activities that have to do with ?art? as well. More specifically, as she confessed to us, even though she?s professionally occupied in the ?acting? field only during the last two years, that was her initial decision, when she had finished high school.

Just before leaving for London, all4fun met Marina at her greek native town, Piraeus, and had an interesting conversation with her. She didn?t miss the chance to reveal her true feelings about the whole situation in Greece.

-How do you manage to find time to do all those different things?

Well, actually I don?t! I?m always in a  constant rush, between shootings, rehearsal and other stuff. I guess this is the ?price? if you wanna run different ?careers? at the same time.. What is really frustrating is the situation of the national market, where an artist has to become a ?self agent? in many aspects. That is also what makes the whole process take more time. If there?s love behind what you do, it?s a ?worthy process?, but still a quite difficult one..

-You have toured the whole country as a dj... Do you wanna share with us a few memories?

Well, I actually have too many stories to tell.. Every single town was a separate, crazy experience. First of all, I should say that I feel extremely lucky and honoured that during these last years, I was invited by all those people who asked to listen to my sets, in all those places. They all seemed so hospitable, gentle and in many cases -believe me so much better informed in music issues than most people in Athens... Now as for memory stuff, what I recall and find really magical was the process of travelling with my friends or the bands which I was appearing with from one town to another... I remember Ioannina?s set in ?4 living thursdays festival? along with ?berlin brides?, ?5 star hotel? & ?monsieur minimal?. You know I was always collecting my posters from the sets. The poster of that festival though was so big that I was listening to jokes like ?wearing it as a cape?at the airport. It couldn?t even fit in the floor of my living room when I unwarped it, hehe.

- You call you sets ?a narration? . Why does this word have a special meaning for you?

Of course it has a very special meaning. The initial target was the narration of my personal stories, not the dj?ing. Actually dj?ing has always been quite indifferent to me. Music was just the ?vehicle?to get to say some things. I was just borrowing the songs of some artists. I could have used something else, like a role, or a poem. In an alternative way, I could stand on some terrace, singing or shouting what I felt.

- Were you always interested in ?acting? or it was something which arised later from the circumstances?

This is a very strange case... Actually, ?acting? was my first choice, when I finished school (don?t ask when though). I recently bumped into the coupon of the exam tests that I had passed back then, in terms of entering the National theater of Greece. ?A big ?circle? ended in 2007 with my occupation in this field, but in-between all those years, there were so many other circles: modeling, drums and of course: dj?ing. In 2007, a friend induced me to start following some acting seminars for cinema with an american teacher. I did that and in less than two years, I found myself following systematically lessons with a number of coaches and making my beginning steps as an actress.

First in tv, and then in theater and cinema, in a few short movies. I feel again very lucky though, cause even from the beginning I had the chance to work near significant people, something which usually happens to actors careers after a certain amount of time. Talking of Spyros Papadopoulos at ?Heaven?s key? tv series, who first put trust on me, Broadway?s director Nick Katis (who directed the theatrical performance in which I was again starring last year at ?Metaksourgeio? theater), Achilleas Gatsopoulos who directed: ?Seal of Lilith? short movie which participated in international film festivals & aired as a videoklip in european & american MTV, or ?Paper plane? short movie of Jim Christodoulou, which was chosen among top 16 in greek Los Angeles film festival this year. My latest?flirt? with cinema was an interesting guest part I had in dutch director?s Fleur Boonman long movie: ?Portable Life?. Rutger Hauers from ?Blade Runner?was starring, movie?s now in pre-production and is gonna go to international film festivals in 2011.

ladydust02- You are strongly connected with your audience, through your radio broadcast, called: ?Planet Ladydust?. Tell us a few things about this experience.

Last year?s radio experience was really magical. I?m not refering only to the time that I was ?on air? or the feeling that a lot of people were listening, but also to the whole ?process? of the preparation for the broadcast. Let me tell you that for 12 month time, me and my partners (I was sometimes co-hosting the ?planet? with dearest friend and radio producer J.Manolakos) were listening every week to approximately 40 new bands so to finally ?get to the top 20?, which was our final weekly presentation and proposal. Basically, we presented 600 to 700 new bands and the most important part is-we discovered most of them, while they were still ?unsigned? with record companies and without them having significant amounts of ?hits? at their ?my space? profiles. Later on, we were watching many of them doing their ?break through?in the international rock n?roll field, by getting some tours and recognition. It was great. If there?s something I?m mostly proud of, in terms of passion and attachment, it is this broadcast. It is a ?planet? indeed, where only the ?good ones? live though. Now, it?s gonna change a bit its ?orbit?, but by no means its company.

- So where can somebody listen to ?Planet Ladydust? now?

This is gonna really soon be announced from my facebook & ?my space?profile, twitter account, or my blog. What I can say for the moment is that broadcasts will also ?air? on ?music? menu of www.ladydust.com. As decided, only those who share with us the same love for music or the same contempt for those who use it in the altar of worthless interests, can have a place at the ?planet?, or in our company. This is quite ?common sense? for me, as everyone needs to be inspired by its environment, and well -at the same time, this is something quite difficult to achieve in Greece. But the new ?terms? of ?planet ladydust?, give me more ?freedom?, which is pretty valuable given the fact that I can be all around. So, ?everything in its right place? like Radiohead say. Just stay tuned at the addresses I mentioned before (someone can easily navigate to them from ?links? menu of www.ladydust.com) for updated info on all that.

- So... are we all: ?Dust in the wind? like the old Kansas song, ms Ladydust?

Of course! It may sound a little vain, but it?s also the main reason why we?re being judged from the universe, not so much out of our behaviour -I think- but out of our inner motives.

- And what is this that you find most irritating in the behaviour of the greeks?

Too many things, unfortunately. Basically, being a greek is nowadays synonyme to not having any sense of general ?respect?. The most irritating part is that those who are ?revolutionary? claim to have ?human ideologies? and pretend to be moral can actually be the worst ones. But someone has to be really careful to notice that those previous are more dangerous than those others who may simply ?lack? some sense of ?education? or ?culture?.

- How about poetry? I read that you?re occupied with reading or writing poetry.

Well, actually, everything is poetry no matter if it?s expressed with words or not. There is sometimes, though, some internal need which makes you want to do so. Talking of me, this occupation is still something which remains at a ?personal level?, even though some of my poems have been published, or some others have been invested with melody by some artists. Poetry is above all arts: music, cinema, above all codes basically, as it is the simplest form of expression. It is above ?life? itself. Maybe I would be more correct to say that it is ?beyond life?...
